Horizon Report 2006: further reading: Wiki Pedagogy
From RG-Bibliowiki
Wiki Pedagogy (Renee Fountain, 2005). This extensive article describes wikis and explores their potential pedagogical aspects. Of particular interest are:
- Four "wiki essences" as noted by Lamb
- Anyone can change anything
- Creating and editing pages is quick and easy
- Wikis use simplified hypertext markup
- While complex formatting with HTML may be possible in some programs, most rely on stripped-down, limited formatting. Fewer tags means quicker learning time
- WikiPageTitlesAreMashedTogether
- This is not necessarily true for all programs. WikiMedia doesn't require CamelCase
- Content is egoless, timeless, and never finished
- Anonymity possible
- "Author" and "ownership" radically shift their meaning
- Content "cloning" across wikis acceptable - termed "plagiarism" in non-wiki world
- Organized by context, which may be in flux as much as content
- Content may be deliberately left incomplete in hopes that someone else will be able to contribute
- Anyone can change anything
There is also a Wiki version of this article.
