CSU Documentation Study: Background
From RG-Bibliowiki
The idea for this study arose from the researcher’s desire to understand how academic libraries generally manage their institutional knowledge and utilize that knowledge for everyday operations. The researcher also wished to compare his experience in organizing and managing documentation for technical services departments in two academic libraries with practices in other institutions. While knowledge management has received considerable attention in the corporate world, the subject has been less frequently studied in the context of academic libraries; nonetheless, the ongoing need for current and relevant documentation is no less present. Projections for the graying of the library profession and impending retirement for a large percentage of the library workforce underscore the need to capture and maintain institutional knowledge.
